Project Experience

Sediment Remediation

As a direct result of managing and coordinating hundreds of environmental projects, de maximis has developed the broad sophistication and expertise necessary to manage and coordinate the complexities associated with the remediation/restoration of a sediment site, whether it be a stream, a river, a canal, a lake, or a pond. We have worked closely with our clients, their counsel, regulators, industry-based work groups, congressional representatives and civic groups to help bridge the regulatory frameworks and advance cost-effective and scientifically sound approaches for making sediment management decisions.

Our experience with legislation regarding sediment include:

  • Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
  • Federal Water Pollution Control Act
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • River and Harbors Act
  • Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act
  • Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)
  • Coastal Zone Management Act
  • Endangered Species Act
  • Great Lakes Legacy Act

Highlights of de maximis’ sediment project experience, as Project Coordinator, Project Manager, Construction Manager, Property Owner, or Fund Manager, include:

  • Dredging management of sediment and sediment spoils, including large scale dredging of 2 million cubic yards
  • Sub-tidal and land-based dredging and capping
  • Removal and transport of sediment to containment landfill
  • Subaqueous capping of sediment (as large as over 400 acres)
  • Evaluation of potential recontamination sources and remedial alternatives and design
  • Negotiation and successful acquisition of Great Lakes Legacy funding and WRDA funding
  • Remedial Investigation and Risk Assessment of sediments (including contamination with PCBs, metals, pesticides)
